About

Hi, my name is Bret Miller.  I am an amateur photographer and filmmaker based in Chicago, Illinois.  I enjoy experimenting with all forms of photography and short films. I created this website to showcase my work and share it with family and friends.

My interest in photography started at a young age. My father was an amateur photographer. Many times he would bring me along on his photographic pursuits. I purchased my first camera, a basic 35mm Minolta film camera with a kit lens when I was 19 years old. I found that I enjoyed using black and white film to make landscape photographs which I had printed at a local photo shop. In 2008 I purchased my first digital camera, a 12.1mp Canon G9 point and shoot. I carried that camera in the pocket of my motorcycle jacket as I explored much of the North American continent. In 2017 I purchased my first full frame DSLR in preparation for an upcoming trip to South America.

I have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to explore just about every genre of photography from landscape, to portrait, travel, and even some photojournalism. Some of my work has even been published in magazines and local news outlets. These days I mostly enjoy making portraits of family and friends. As I buy and sell a lot of photographic equipment, I have been doing a lot of product photography. I find the deliberate, precise, and controlled nature of product photography very calming. If I ever get caught up on my product photography I hope to use my setup to make artistic still life images.
