Adam Toledo was fatally shot by a Chicago Police Officer on March 29th, 2021. On Thursday, April 15th police body camera footage was made available to the public by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA). On the evening of Friday, April 16th a large rally and protest march was held for Adam in the Logan Square Neighborhood of Chicago. I arrived at Logan Square Park, the meeting point for the rally, at approximately 6pm that evening. I streamed live to my YouTube Channel as I followed the marchers through the Logan Square Neighborhood. There were thousands of people in attendance. At the end of the march, the group returned to Logan Square Park. There were a some closing speeches. Then the majority of the group dispersed. Although the march was almost entirely peaceful, there were a handful of protesters who clashed with police as people were trying to leave. Two were arrested at that time. There remained behind a small contingent of protesters who kept the intersection of Milwaukee Ave and Kedzie Ave partially closed as they demonstrated in the street. I stayed until approximately 11pm that evening. At that time there were only a handful of protesters left and I had used up my second camera battery so I decided to call it a night.
On Monday, April 19th I visited the Memorial for Adam that was created at the location where he died, in the alley behind 24th St. and Sawyer Ave. There is a beautiful mural there depicting Adam with angel wings and his hands raised in surrender. The mural was surrounded by a massive amount of flowers and candles for Adam. There were also several sports balls including the soccer ball below, which were placed in tribute to him.
